About Bairōhama
The proud white sandy beaches of the Kansai region.
Details
Shirahama is a 620-meter long stretch of white sandy beach, renowned as the most beautiful beach in the Kansai region. It has also been selected as one of the "Top 100 Beaches in Japan" and has established a "sister beach" relationship with Waikiki Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii. Approximately 600,000 visitors come each year.
In the summer, colorful beach umbrellas dot the pure white sand like flowers. Coupled with the crystal-clear blue sea and rows of palm trees lining the coast, it feels as if you have arrived at a Hawaiian resort. Nearby, there is the famous hot spring "Shirahama Onsen," where you can soak in the hot springs while enjoying the sea view.
Shirahama hosts various events throughout the year, such as sand sculpture festivals, fireworks displays, treasure hunts for the buried treasures of the Kumano navy, and candlelight illuminations. It is recommended to check the official website in advance for detailed information about the events.
