Details
The signature product of the long-established confectionery store "Funawa," which opened in 1902 during the Meiji era. The founder, Kobayashi Kazusuke, who was engaged in sweet potato wholesale in Asakusa, Tokyo, created the sweet potato yokan to allow the public to enjoy the luxurious taste of traditional yokan made from red bean paste. Today, "Funawa Imo Yokan" has become a famous specialty of Tokyo known nationwide.
Imo yokan is made from sweet potatoes, sugar, and a small amount of salt. It has a moderate sweetness that fully showcases the natural flavor of the ingredients. It does not use any coloring agents, preservatives, or fragrances, making it safe for everyone from young children to the elderly. Its simple flavor and delicate texture have also attracted many fans.
It can be enjoyed on its own, or it can be reheated in an oven to enjoy the rich aroma of baked sweet potatoes, or pan-fried with butter in a skillet to transform it into a Western-style snack, allowing for various ways to enjoy it according to personal preference.
