About Byodoin Omotesando
The shopping street in front of the store is filled with the refreshing aroma of Uji tea.
Details
A historic Omotesando leads to the main gate of the World Heritage Site "Byodoin." It is a 10-minute walk from JR "Uji" Station, and you can easily reach it by crossing Uji Bridge from Keihan "Uji" Station. Both stations provide convenient access. Along the road, there are many long-established Uji tea shops that have been in business since the Muromachi period, filling the entire street with an elegant aroma of tea. In 2001, the Ministry of the Environment designated it as one of the "Top 100 Scenic Aromas" with the theme of "Aroma We Want to Pass On, Scenery We Want to Preserve."
In addition to the old Uji tea shops, there are several stores selling Uji specialties and souvenir shops. Nearby, there are various dining and coffee shops where you can leisurely enjoy a variety of tea-based dishes such as tea dumplings, matcha desserts, and tea soba noodles, as well as Kyoto-style home-cooked meals. While strolling down the street, tasting the authentic matcha soft serve sold at the Uji tea specialty shops is also a major attraction. It is recommended to try and compare the matcha soft serve from different shops to find your favorite flavor.
