📜 Content

Chiba Prefectural Boso no Mura is a museum that recreates buildings and landscapes from the late Edo period to the early Meiji period, based on traditional streets and farmhouses still existing in places like Sawara within the prefecture. The street scene of shops, featuring Inari, Jizo, and watchtowers, is particularly captivating. The recreation of the farmhouses and fields of prominent farmers in rural areas creates an atmosphere that makes visitors feel like time travelers lost in that era. Visitors can joyfully learn about traditional culture through experiences such as weaving and painting paper dolls. It is a facility that allows people to personally experience the traditional life and techniques of Boso. Chiba Prefectural Boso no Mura not only perfectly recreates samurai residences, merchant houses, and farmhouses, but also features watermill cottages from the Boso region up until the early Showa period, as well as rural Kabuki stages where local performances were held. Inside the Fudoki no Oka Museum, there are displays of restored skeletons of Namazuo excavated from Inba Marsh, along with artifacts unearthed from ancient tombs. The museum boasts the largest scale of the Ryugakuzan Kofun group in Chiba Prefecture, along with haniwa and restored ancient tombs. Additionally, in the rich natural mountain forests, there are buildings that have been relocated from other places, such as the former Shodō of the old Gakuryōin, which is designated as an Important Cultural Property of the country and is also worth seeing.
