About Choshi Valley Nature Zoo - Monkey Kingdom
You can observe the adorable monkeys and enjoy the representative scenic spots of Shodoshima.
Details
Located in Chōsui Valley, the natural zoo is one of the famous scenic spots on Shodoshima, alongside Kankakei. The park is home to about 300 fed wild Japanese macaques. These monkeys are designated as a natural monument of the prefecture, allowing visitors to closely observe their adorable behaviors, such as grooming each other or cuddling together for warmth, as well as the experience of feeding them.
Although they are fed, please be cautious as they are originally wild monkeys; do not touch them or make direct eye contact. Additionally, please refrain from feeding them anything other than the food sold in the park. The monkeys are very curious and can easily be attracted to objects, so it is advisable to avoid bringing valuable items to prevent them from being snatched away.
Not far from the parking lot, there is the Chōsui Waterfall, which stands 21 meters tall and is 3 meters wide, making it the largest waterfall on the island. Visitors can enjoy the view of the waterfall from the observation deck above. Furthermore, the panoramic view of the island and the Seto Inland Sea from the observation deck at the top of Mount Sendamine, where the monkeys reside, is not to be missed. If traveling by car, it is recommended to take the "Shodoshima Sky Line" and visit Kankakei along the way.
