About Daigaku-dori (University Avenue) (国立大学通り)
A beautiful streetscape selected as one of the "New 100 Views of Tokyo."
Details
Kokuritsu University Avenue is a road that extends south from "Kokuritsu" Station. Cherry blossom trees, ginkgo trees, and zelkova trees are planted along both sides of the road. This road was selected as one of the "New Tokyo Hundred Sceneries" for its beautiful scenery.
Every spring, approximately 200 cherry blossom trees bloom along Kokuritsu University Avenue and along the "Sakura Avenue" that extends east and west in front of the road, creating a perfect archway.
During seasons other than spring, this road offers different charm. For example, greenery in summer, traditional festivals (Tenkashi) in autumn, and winter light displays. Every year in early April, the Yaho Third Park, located beside Sakura Avenue, hosts the "Kokuritsu Sakura Matsuri" (Kokuritsu Cherry Blossom Festival). The event features performances such as dance, along with stalls and flea market activities.
Highlights
One of the beautiful streetscapes selected as one of the "New Tokyo Hundred Views." The best time to enjoy cherry blossoms along the National University Avenue is from late March to late April. A light show event is held in December.
