About Daisanji Street
The lush beech tree-lined avenue, a symbolic road of Sendai.
Details
Dōzenji Street, along with "Aoba Street," is one of the main roads symbolizing Sendai, the "City of Forests." The four rows of approximately 700 meters long zelkova tree-lined avenue showcase different landscapes with the changing seasons, presenting fresh greenery in spring and vibrant autumn leaves. The center of the road features a pedestrian walkway, allowing visitors to enjoy leisurely strolls while sipping coffee.
Across from Dōzenji Street is a stylish building with a full glass facade known as the "Sendai Media Center," a public facility. In addition to books, it houses audiovisual materials and serves as a hub for art and media culture activities.
In December, the zelkova tree-lined avenue hosts a light festival called "Sendai Pageant of Starlight." Held annually from early December to the 31st, the event attracts over 2.8 million visitors, making it a winter highlight of Sendai. During the light festival, an event called "Starlight Wink" takes place, where all the lights temporarily go out at a specific time before being illuminated again, elevating the atmosphere of the festival to its peak.
Highlights
