📝 Introduction
The famous Japanese confectionery shop known for its "oni-gawara" shaped sweets in Dazaifu.
📖 Details
Located on the approach to Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, which is dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, this wagashi shop is renowned for its "Oni-gawara Monaka." The filling is made from carefully cooked red bean paste using Hokkaido Tokachi red beans, enclosed in monaka wafers made from carefully selected glutinous rice from Saga Prefecture. The sweet yet not overly rich Oni-gawara Monaka is shaped like the Oni-gawara, a symbol of Dazaifu, and its unique appearance has made it one of the most popular souvenirs for visitors to Dazaifu.
Additionally, the shop offers seasonal wagashi made with Fukuoka's famous Amaou strawberries and chestnuts, which are also extremely popular. Among these, the "Amaou Strawberry Daifuku Sandwich" and "Amaou Strawberry Daifuku," available only from late November to March, feature large Amaou strawberries DX and have garnered significant media attention for their cute appearance. The perfectly balanced acidity of the Amaou strawberries can be paired with three types of fillings: Yame tea red bean paste, white bean paste, and red bean paste, offering an excellent flavor!
The shop is located just a 2-minute walk from Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, making it a convenient stop during your visit.
