Dogo Onsen is known as the oldest hot spring in Japan and has been mentioned in the "Nihon Shoki" (Chronicles of Japan). The "Dogo Onsen Honkan" is not only a symbol of the area but also an important cultural asset of the nation. Its sister facility, "Dogo Onsen Tsubaki no Yu," is a public bath that is popular among tourists and serves as a recreational spot for locals.
Tsubaki no Yu was built in Showa 28 (1953) and is located in the center of Dogo Shopping Street, about a 3-minute walk from Dogo Onsen Honkan. It was later renovated and reopened in 2017. Unlike the wooden structure of the main building, Tsubaki no Yu features an L-shaped kura-style design, which is quite distinctive. The bathing area, like the main building, uses granite. In the high-ceilinged bathhouse, there is a hot spring kettle from Dogo Onsen, allowing visitors to indulge in the luxurious experience of enjoying the famous Dogo hot spring with no heating or added water.
Nearby, there is also the "Dogo Onsen Bekkan Asukanoyu," which combines "Ehime traditional crafts" with "cutting-edge art." It is recommended to visit both the main building and this facility to enjoy three different bathing experiences.
