Details
Established in 1936, "欧风料理 MON (Mon)" is a well-known Western-style restaurant in Kobe that has become a household name. The first owner believed that "the era of Western cuisine is coming," and opened the restaurant in a new area, later relocating to its current location after World War II. Upon entering through the wooden door, the interior, adorned with antique decorations, exudes an exotic atmosphere. These decorations are part of the first owner's collection, with some items displayed since the restaurant's opening.
One of the signature dishes is the omurice, where a thin omelet made from a generous amount of eggs wraps around tomato fried rice mixed with chicken and mushrooms, delivering an exceptional flavor. It is served with homemade tomato sauce that can be enjoyed according to personal preference. Another signature dish is the fried steak, which features a crispy exterior and tender meat inside, drizzled with a rich demi-glace sauce that makes it irresistible. The fried steak sandwich, made from the same delicious steak, is also a popular souvenir.
Additionally, the matchbox and souvenir packaging designs created by the woodblock print artist Kawanishi Hideo, famous for "Kobe's Hundred Scenic Views," are worth a look.
