About Fujiya Honten
With over 130 years of establishment, the local famous restaurant in Tōkyō, "Belt Udon," serves traditional Kiryu cuisine.
Details
Tōryū, a well-known wheat-producing area since ancient times, has had many udon shops since the early days. Founded in the 20th year of the Meiji era (1887), Tōya Honten is a famous restaurant for local Kiryu cuisine. The so-called "belt udon" refers to wide, thin noodles, with widths ranging from 5.0 mm to over 15 cm.
The noodles made by the owner use flour produced in Gunma Prefecture, and after a long fermentation process, the hand-pulled noodles, which are 5 cm wide, present a chewy and smooth texture, enjoyed with a unique broth that has been passed down through generations.
The signature dish is "Curry Steamed Belt Noodles." Originally a seasonal dish for autumn and winter, it became a classic menu item available year-round due to its popularity among customers. The hot curry incorporates the sweetness of green onions and meat, making it a perfect match with the elastic and smooth noodles. Other offerings include udon served with rice bowls, and the "Assorted Tempura" is also a popular menu item.
The udon options include udon soup, dipping udon, and steamed udon, and for an additional 100 yen, you can switch to soba or belt udon.
