About Gifu Kakamigahara Aerospace Museum
The exhibition of physical machines is the largest in Japan, and it is the only aerospace specialty museum in the country.
Details
The Japan Aerospace Museum, located in Kakamigahara City, where the aviation industry has flourished since ancient times, is the only specialized museum in Japan dedicated to aerospace. It is nicknamed "Kūchū Haku" (空宙博).
The museum covers an area of 9,400 square meters and features 34 actual aircraft, along with 9 life-sized model aircraft, showcasing a total of 43 planes.
In the aviation section, visitors can see the only existing Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft, known as "Hien," produced in Kakamigahara. From biplanes to jet aircraft, the real planes are displayed side by side by era, creating a spectacular sight. The simulators for passenger and small jet aircraft are also very popular.
The space section introduces the history of space development through a variety of displays and experiential devices. Notably, there is a life-sized model of the Japanese experiment module "Kibo" on the International Space Station (ISS), which is a faithful reproduction of the interior and is definitely worth a visit. The life-sized models of space suits and the asteroid probe "Hayabusa 2" are also very captivating.
Additionally, the cinema showcasing aviation and space-related stories is quite impressive, and it is recommended to visit as well. The museum also features a café called "Kūchū Haku Café," offering special meals, and a museum shop selling various limited-edition souvenirs and merchandise.
