🗺️ Gokase Lake (御釜)御釜（五色湖）

Zaozan's Okama is a crater lake located at the highest point in the central part of the Zao mountain range. This lake, with a diameter of 325 meters and a circumference of 1 kilometer, is surrounded by three mountains: Karitake, Kumano-dake, and Goshikidake. The color of the lake changes with various conditions such as season, time, weather, and temperature, transforming into deep green, blue, and emerald green, earning it the nickname "Five Color Lake." It is a spot full of mystery, where the tranquil glow of the lake surface contrasts with the rough crater walls, revealing the profound beauty of nature. Due to its location at an altitude of 1,600 meters in the central part of the Zao mountain range, the temperature difference and climate changes are significant, and even in summer, one should be prepared for cold weather. On sunny days, it is advisable to carry rain gear for peace of mind. The "Zaozan Summit REST HOUSE" features an observation deck that offers a view of Okama, along with a restaurant and shops. From Okama, it takes about a 10-minute walk to reach the summit of Karitake, where you can visit the "Karitane Shrine Okumi," which enshrines Zao Kongo. This place is known for its energy, allowing visitors to connect with the earth's energy, making it a must-visit spot. Additionally, Zao is also a well-known hot spring area, where you can relax and rejuvenate in the hot springs after hiking.
