📖 Details
The Hakone Lalique Museum is an art museum that showcases the works of the famous French decorative arts master René Lalique. Lalique was very active during the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods and was an exceptionally talented jewelry designer and glass artist. During his 20s to 40s, he primarily created exquisite jewelry and decorative items, and after turning 50, he shifted his focus to glass craftsmanship. His jewelry and glass artworks, often themed around birds, flowers, and women, are quite delicate and reflect his superb skills and profound sensitivity to nature.
The museum features a garden and includes a café and a shop. The open-air café "CAFÉ RESTAURANT LYS" is located in front of the lawn garden, allowing visitors to enjoy leisurely French cuisine while appreciating the seasonal natural scenery. A popular dish is the lunch platter featuring both fish and meat dishes.
The museum's souvenir shop sells many original items that can only be purchased here, including around 100 types of postcards, illustrated books, and merchandise related to special exhibitions.
Additionally, the train exhibit within the museum is quite captivating. It features the actual "Orient Express salon car" that once operated in Europe. Visitors can enter the car to view the interior decorations crafted by Lalique while enjoying afternoon tea, spending an elegant time in a space filled with luxury (reservations are required on the day, priced at 2,750 yen per person).
