Hakone Yumoto Onsen is one of the seven major hot springs in Hakone and is regarded as the largest hot spring town in the area. It is said that the hot springs originated in the Nara period and flourished during the Edo period as a hot spring town along the "Tōkaidō," one of the five main roads. Even today, there are many hot spring facilities, accommodations, restaurants, and souvenir shops, all filled with a lively atmosphere, making it the most famous hot spring street in Hakone. The nearest station to Hakone Yumoto Onsen is called "Hakone Yumoto," known as the gateway to Hakone. It is served by the Odakyu Romancecar, as well as the Hakone Tozan Railway and Hakone Tozan Bus, providing various transportation options. Nearby, there are many historical attractions, including "Sōun-ji," built based on the last will of the famous warlord Hojo Sōun from the Sengoku period, making it a great place to enjoy hot springs before or after sightseeing. Hakone Yumoto Onsen is also the oldest hot spring area in the Hakone region, with over 40 ryokans offering hot spring facilities. The area closest to the station has many leisure facilities, making it ideal for a day trip to the hot springs. There are many restaurants and small shops in Hakone Yumoto Onsen, with a local specialty being tofu dishes made from Hakone's clean water.
