🗺️ Hamanoura Terraced Rice Fields浜野浦の棚田

The Hamanoura River is approximately 2 kilometers long, and at its estuary flowing into Hamanoura Beach, a river valley has formed due to river erosion. Here, the "Hamanoura Terraces" were built. A total of 283 rice fields are layered and scattered along the curves drawn by nature, also known as "Senmaida" or "terraced rice fields." The terraces rise like steps from the sea, showcasing different scenes with the changing seasons: canola flowers in spring, spider lilies in autumn, and snowy landscapes in winter. During the rice planting season from early April to early May, the rice fields and paths illuminated by the orange sunset are particularly breathtaking. From the observation deck of the terraces, one can overlook the surroundings and enjoy the beautiful scenery created by the interplay of nature and human activity. The stone terraces, carefully preserved since the Warring States period and the Edo period, have been recognized as one of the "100 Best Terraced Rice Fields in Japan," "Saga Prefecture Heritage," and "Designated Terraced Rice Field Area." The Hamanoura Terraces have also been designated as a "Lovers' Sanctuary" by the NPO "Earth Activation Support Center," and are well-known as a romantic date spot, featuring the "Eternal Stone," where two people can ring a bell together.

The beautiful terraced fields facing the small bay are very soothing. During the rice planting season from early April to early May, the sunset scenery is particularly stunning. The dating spot recognized as a lovers' sanctuary is also very popular.
