📝 Introduction
Quietly standing by the banks of the Toyozawa River in the Mutsu Secret Hot Springs, there are 8 hot springs.
📖 Details
The 12 hot spring areas in Hanamaki are collectively known as "Hanamaki Onsen Village," among which the 8 hot spring areas located next to the valley in the western part of Hanamaki City are referred to as "Hanamaki South Onsen Gorge." It is said that these hot springs were opened 300 to 400 years ago, making it a historic area with traditional onsen facilities, large hotels favored by families, and high-end accommodations where all rooms include outdoor baths.
At the entrance of the Onsen Gorge, you will find "Matsukura Onsen," "Shidobira Onsen," and "Dai Onsen" lined up in order, followed by "Oosawa Onsen," "Yamanokami Onsen," and "Lead Onsen," with "Shin Lead Onsen" located at the far end. All the hot springs are surrounded by lush greenery, creating an atmosphere full of hidden gems.
Among them, "Yamanokami Onsen" features the largest outdoor bath in Hanamaki Onsen Village, with a spacious area of over 50 tatami mats for both men and women. Additionally, "Oosawa Onsen" offers a hot spring accommodation that has been renovated from a building over 200 years old, where guests can cook for themselves in a traditional communal cooking space. This area is well-known for its hot springs, which were frequently visited by the beloved author Kenji Miyazawa.
The water quality of Hanamaki South Onsen Gorge is quite excellent, and visitors can also enjoy the riverside scenery. Buses that stop at each hot spring area are available, allowing guests to fully enjoy the pleasure of soaking in the hot springs.
