About Hanshin Specialty Ikayaki Shop
Located in the basement of Hanshin Department Store, this well-loved and famous queue-worthy snack has been popular for many years.
Details
In 1957, when the Hanshin Umeda Main Store opened, it also launched its operations with the beloved "Ika-yaki" (squid grill) shop. Located in the basement food area "Snack Park" of the department store, it has become a popular spot with long lines almost every day.
Ika-yaki is a type of "flour product" that is widely loved in Osaka. It is made by mixing chopped squid tentacles into a secret broth and flour, then grilling it between two iron plates at high temperatures. The result is a chewy batter combined with a fragrant sauce, along with the delicious taste of the secret sauce and fresh, sweet squid. The original "Ika-yaki" is perfectly portioned for easy snacking, and its affordable price of under 200 yen is one of the reasons for its popularity, often selling over 10,000 pieces in a single day. In addition to the classic flavors like the "Deluxe Ika-yaki" with egg, "Green Onion Ika-yaki" with soy sauce, and "Japanese-style Deluxe Ika-yaki," there are also limited-time flavors that include corn or mentaiko cheese.
It can be taken out or enjoyed in the standing area within "Snack Park." On the same floor, there is also a frozen Ika-yaki section available for takeout or delivery, where you can choose souvenirs if you wish to purchase some.
