Kankakei is a gorge located on Shodoshima Island in Kagawa Prefecture, situated in the central area of Setonaikai National Park. Formed approximately 13 million years ago by volcanic activity, the area features andesite, breccia, and other rocks that have been shaped over the years by tectonic movements and erosion, resulting in countless strange rock formations and steep cliffs, creating a magical and magnificent gorge landscape. Kankakei is renowned as one of Japan's three most beautiful gorges, one of Japan's three great scenic spots, and one of Japan's top 100 scenic views, and it has been selected as one of the "100 Best Natural Landscapes in Japan to Preserve for the 21st Century." A cable car can take you across the deep gorge, offering a bird's-eye view of the Seto Inland Sea, the lush mountains, and the seasonal beauty of maple leaves. This is the only aerial cable car in Japan that allows you to see the sky, the sea, and the gorge simultaneously. The cable car connects the Akakumo-tei Station and the summit station, with a departure every 12 minutes (the ride takes 5 minutes). Additionally, there are hiking trails leading to the summit. It is recommended to take the cable car to the top and then hike down. Of course, depending on personal fitness levels, you can also choose to walk both ways or take the cable car for the tour. Near the summit station, there are facilities such as restaurants, restrooms, souvenir shops, and observation decks.
