Details
The "Hasegawa Machiko Art Museum," which opened in 1985 (Showa 60), is named after Hasegawa Machiko, the author of the beloved Japanese comic "Sazae-san." The museum collects and displays works that reflect the earnings Hasegawa Machiko made from her comics, such as "Sazae-san" and "Useless Old Woman," along with art and crafts collected with her sister Mariko during her lifetime.
The museum features a total of 788 items, including 311 Japanese paintings, 250 Western paintings, 195 crafts, and 32 sculptures. It hosts multiple exhibitions each year, showcasing related works based on different themes.
Across the street is the "Hasegawa Machiko Memorial Hall," which opened in 2020. Visitors can enter with a ticket from the art museum. The memorial hall primarily displays original artwork, drawing tools, and materials related to Hasegawa Machiko's works. The café on the first floor of the memorial hall serves coffee in cups featuring "Sazae-san" comics, and the shop sells a variety of original merchandise and books.
