About Hell Steaming Workshop Tetsuwheel
Experience the bold traditional cuisine of Beppu, "Jigoku Mushi."
Details
Tetsuwan Onsen is one of the famous hot spring streets in the hot spring capital of Beppu, where steam from the hot springs wafts through the alleys. The Jigoku Steam Workshop Tetsuwan is a complex facility where you can experience the hell-steamed cuisine unique to Tetsuwan Onsen. Hell steaming is a cooking method that uses 98-degree Celsius, 100% geothermal hot spring steam, a technique that has been passed down since the Edo period. It allows you to experience the traditional cuisine unique to Beppu, which leads to long lines every weekend.
The cooking process is very simple. Ingredients such as vegetables, seafood, and eggs are placed in a bamboo basket, and with the assistance of staff, the basket is placed into the boiling "Jigoku Steam Pot" and then covered. The ingredients are steamed using saline hot spring steam, which locks in their natural flavors and has received high praise.
There are various combinations of ingredients, such as the "Jigoku Steam Tamatebako," which includes seasonal vegetables, chicken, and meat buns, or the "Meat Set." The combinations of ingredients are quite rich. Nearby, Pocket Park features foot baths and foot steaming facilities suitable for wheelchair users, as well as a drinking fountain said to be beneficial for health.
