About Hijiyama Park
Hillside Park, where you can fully enjoy the cherry blossoms in spring and the streetscape of Hiroshima.
Details
Opened in 1903 (Meiji 36), it is the first park in Hiroshima City. Although it is only separated from the city by a river about 2 meters wide, its abundant greenery has made it a beloved recreational spot for citizens. From the park on the hillside, one can enjoy a panoramic view of the cityscape and the Seto Inland Sea.
Along with the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, it is a famous cherry blossom viewing spot, featuring approximately 1,300 Somei Yoshino cherry trees that bloom from late March to early April. Please note that the park is closed from 11 PM to 5 AM the next morning. The road leading from the foot of the mountain to the park has some elevation changes, so it is recommended to use the "Hiji-yama SKYWALK," a 200-meter-long automatic walkway and escalator connecting to a large commercial facility.
Inside the park, there is the "Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art," designed to resemble a warehouse, and the "Hiroshima City Manga Library," which houses over 160,000 volumes. There are also several sculptures by modern artists. It is a park where one can experience art up close and is highly popular.
