🗺️ Himeji City Zoo姫路市立動物園

Located within the World Heritage Site of Himeji Castle, adjacent to the San-no-maru Plaza, is the "Zoo in the Castle." Upon entering the zoo and proceeding straight, you will see the red "Shiro Mi Bridge," from where you can view Himeji Castle behind the moat. From the west side of the old elephant house, you can see the "Reverse Great Keep," which reflects in the waters of the moat, making it a famous scenic spot for viewing Himeji Castle. Inside the zoo, you can see approximately 92 species of 375 animals. There are over 150 mammals, including about 30 species such as giraffes and hippos, around 50 species of birds including penguins and owls, and about 10 species of reptiles with more than 20 individuals, such as snakes and turtles. There is also an "Interactive Plaza" that both adults and children enjoy. Every day, two "Interactive Times" are held in the morning and afternoon, allowing visitors to interact with small animals like guinea pigs. The zoo features nostalgic amusement facilities on both the south and north sides, where both adults and children can have fun together.
