About Ikedayama Park

A stroll garden built on the site of the former lord's residence, where visitors can enjoy the diverse flowers, plants, and beautiful autumn foliage throughout the four seasons.

Details

Ikedayama Park was originally the villa of the Ikeda clan, the feudal lords of Bizen Province, Okayama, during the early Edo period. It was later developed into a scenic municipal park and opened to the public in 1985. This park features a stroll-style Japanese garden that cleverly utilizes the varied terrain and elevation changes, allowing visitors to enjoy the entire garden's beauty from the elevated gazebo. The park includes landscapes such as woodlands and waterfalls, and in recent years, it has gained attention as an energy spot. In addition to the garden landscapes created with woodlands, ponds, and waterfalls, one of the park's attractions is the ability to appreciate different flowers, plants, and trees throughout the four seasons. From mid-February to mid-March, plum blossoms and camellias bloom; from mid-April to mid-May, azaleas appear; from late May to mid-June, irises can be seen; and from June to mid-July, hydrangeas flourish. Especially stunning are the autumn leaves from mid-November to early December. The park also underwent accessibility renovations in 2019, making it easier and more enjoyable for elderly visitors and those in wheelchairs to explore and have fun.
