Details

The "Gion Kobu Kaburenjo Small Theater" is located next to the "Gion Kobu Kaburenjo," a theater dedicated to "Miyako Mai" in Gion, where traditional Japanese performances are held daily. In just one hour, you can enjoy seven internationally renowned forms of traditional Japanese culture and arts. The performances include the elegant "Kyomai" presented by beautifully dressed maiko, "Bunraku," designated as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, "Kyogen," which humorously reflects contemporary society, "Bugaku," one of the oldest forms of music in the world, as well as "Tea Ceremony," "Ikebana," and "Koto Music," totaling seven performances. Among these, "Bunraku" and "Noh" change based on the period. Currently, there are various schools, with world-famous "Ikebana" schools such as Ikenobo and Saga Goryu alternating performances daily. The "Tea Ceremony," founded by Sen no Rikyū, has had a profound impact on Japanese life and culture, and here you can see a demonstration of the Urasenke style of tea ceremony, which is conducted while seated on chairs. In a concise manner, you can experience the charm of seven unique Japanese cultures and arts at once, making it a common itinerary for group travel and outdoor education.
