About Japan Modern Literature Museum
There are precious materials on modern Japanese literature, along with a Book Cafe that literature fans love.
Details
The Japan Modern Literature Museum is located within Komaba Park in the Meguro district. Writers and researchers recognized that modern literary materials might disappear amidst the chaos after the war, which led to its establishment, and it was opened in 1967.
The museum primarily houses books and magazines, with approximately 1.3 million items in its collection. This includes precious materials such as authentic manuscripts donated by the families of writers or related individuals. Some materials are stored in a reading room accessible only to those aged 15 and older, where students and researchers frequently come to consult the resources. Each year, there are four planned exhibitions or special exhibitions, along with literary-related lectures or talks. The museum also features a Book Cafe called "BUNDAN."
