Details

Shinnyo-ji Temple is renowned for dispelling disasters and facilitating good relationships. With its ancient history, it is second only to Senso-ji Temple in Tokyo. Inside the Shaka-do Hall, the national treasure statue of Shakyamuni Buddha is enshrined. The lush temple grounds feature a unique spring, and the abundant water source has fostered the development of soba noodles, making "Shinnyo-ji Soba" a local specialty. There are more than 20 soba shops in the area surrounding the temple today. Throughout the year, the temple hosts a variety of events. In addition to New Year’s visits and the Setsubun bean-throwing ceremony, there are events such as the "Dharma Market" from March 3 to 4, the "Hōzuki Market" in late July, and the "Soba Festival" in the autumn. During these events, the temple is always bustling with crowds, lively and vibrant.

Highlights

The temple houses the national treasure statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. There are 20 soba noodle shops around the temple where you can enjoy the famous "Shindaiji Soba." In the summer, there is the "Hōzuki Matsuri" (Firefly Festival). The "Daruma Market" is held from March 3rd to 4th.

(1) At the Keio Line "Chōfu" Station Central Exit bus stop, take the bus heading to "Daishin Temple" (Chō34). After approximately 15 minutes, get off at the terminal "Daishin Temple" stop and walk for 1 minute. (2) At the Keio Line "Tsubaki Hill" Station North Exit bus stop, take the bus heading to "Daishin Temple" (Hill 21). After approximately 15 minutes, get off at the terminal "Daishin Temple" stop and walk for about 1 minute. (3) At the JR Chūō Line "Mitaka" Station South Exit bus stop, take the bus heading to "Daishin Temple" (Taka65). After approximately 25 minutes, get off at the terminal "Daishin Temple" stop and walk for 3 minutes.
