📜 Content

The Kinkasan Ropeway is a historic mountain cable car that opened in 1955, and the current cable car is the sixth generation. The ride from the boarding area at Gifu Park, located at the foot of Kinkasan where Gifu Castle is situated, to the summit at an elevation of 329 meters takes about 4 minutes. It operates every 15 minutes on weekdays and every 10 minutes during peak hours. The total length is 599.43 meters, with a height difference of 255.43 meters, and it was the first in Japan to install a bladeless electric fan. At the boarding area at the foot of the mountain, there is a souvenir shop, a rest area, coin-operated lockers, and a nursing room. Pets are also allowed on the cable car, with small pet baskets available for use. At the summit, in addition to a terrace area where drinks can be purchased and the observation deck "Terrace Court 329," there is a scenic restaurant called "Le Pont de Ciel." The glass-walled restaurant offers views from the southeast to the north while enjoying meals. Next to the Kinkasan summit station, there is a "Squirrel Village" where visitors can play with squirrels. Kinkasan is home to many wild squirrels, and after being trained for a long time, Japan's first "Squirrel Village" was established in 1965. These wild squirrels are said to have escaped from Taiwan during an exhibition held in Showa 11 (1936) and have since bred in the wild on Kinkasan.
