About Junpu Workshop Takumi Lodge
Located in Shizuoka City, it is the largest traditional craft experience facility in Japan.
Details
Reopened in May 2021 after renovations, this facility allows visitors to experience Shizuoka City's proud traditional crafts. The experiences are divided into three workshops: "Workshop Bamboo and Dye," "Workshop Wood and Lacquer," and "Workshop Fire and Earth," each offering a variety of experience programs. In "Workshop Bamboo and Dye," visitors can try their hand at Suruga bamboo crafts, indigo dyeing, and tea dyeing; "Workshop Wood and Lacquer" features woodworking and lacquerware experiences; while "Workshop Fire and Earth" offers pottery making challenges using electric potters' wheels. Skilled artisans of Suruga bamboo crafts are on-site, allowing for close observation of their exquisite techniques.
For purchasing artisan works, head to "Gallery Teto Teto." Here, you can find pieces from current artisans as well as a collection of crafts and folk art from across Japan. Visiting after the craft experience will surely provide a different perspective on the joy of selecting products.
Additionally, there are dining facilities where you can enjoy Shizuoka's culinary delights. There’s a café called "HACHI&MITSU" that serves coffee made with locally produced honey, and "Kintsuba Tokiya," which carries on the beloved flavors of the local people; there’s also a café offering house-roasted coffee set to open in March 2023. This is a great spot where you can enjoy both fun experiences and delicious food while taking a break.
