The Tsuruoka City Kamo Aquarium is located by the coast of Tsuruoka City and is the only aquarium in Yamagata Prefecture. It showcases over 60 species of jellyfish, making it the world's leading aquarium in terms of breeding and displaying jellyfish.
The highlight of the aquarium is the "Jellyfish Dream Theater," a display tank with a diameter of five meters. The sight of approximately 10,000 moon jellyfish gracefully swimming in the giant tank is a unique experience that can only be seen here. In addition to jellyfish, the aquarium also features around 104 species of marine life that inhabit the waters off the coast of the Shonai region in Yamagata Prefecture. Visitors can also encounter the aquarium's mascots, the sea lions and seals, adding to the fun.
