The Tachimachi Wharf Morning Market is a large morning market held at Tachimachi Fishing Port in Hachinohe City, Aomori Prefecture, exclusively on Sunday mornings. While it is an ordinary fishing port on weekdays, at dawn on Sundays, it transforms into a massive market stretching about 800 meters long with around 300 shops lined up. The market offers not only fresh fish and dried seafood but also a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, handmade delicacies, and crafts. Within the market, there are also snack stalls selling grilled seafood skewers, senbei soup, and mackerel croquettes, making it perfect for eating while browsing. Although it is still early in the morning, the enticing aromas wafting from the stalls are sure to make your mouth water. Additionally, if you're lucky, you might encounter the mysterious mascot "Ikadon-sensei" who unexpectedly appears at the market. The market is typically held every Sunday from March to December, operating from sunrise until around 9 AM. During the Golden Week and Obon Festival periods, there may also be temporary morning markets held, so please check the official website for business information. Due to the particularly cold sea breeze in December and March, it's advisable to dress warmly while visiting the market. Regarding transportation, on the days the market is held, temporary trains will be added before the first regular train departs from "Hachinohe" Station to the nearest "Rikuo-minato" Station, as well as a "Morning Market Loop Bus" departing from downtown Hachinohe.
