About Kappa Bridge
The landmark of Kamikochi, a wooden suspension bridge perfectly integrated with nature.
Details
Kappa Bridge was once a movable bridge constructed with planks extending from both banks. It was later rebuilt as a suspension bridge in 1910. The current suspension bridge is the fifth generation Kappa Bridge, reconstructed in 1997. This bridge, made of larch wood, is 3.1 meters wide and 36.6 meters long, and has become a symbolic landmark of Kamikochi.
Standing on the bridge, one can gaze at the magnificent views of the Hotaka Mountain Range and the beautiful Yakezawa Valley nestled between the peaks. Below the bridge flows the crystal-clear Azusa River, lined with weeping willows and larch trees, creating a vibrant natural landscape that captivates visitors.
Around Kappa Bridge, there are various tourist facilities including hotels, local specialty shops, and cafes. Among them, traditional Japanese sweets and crafts made from birch wood, which are unique to Kamikochi, are particularly popular.
