About Kinshachi Ohdori (Golden Shachihoko Street)

Nagoya's specialty dishes are gathered in the alleys beneath Nagoya Castle!

Details

Kinshachi Ohdori is a major food destination located at the foot of Nagoya Castle, divided into two areas. The first area is the "Yoshinao Area," named after the esteemed lord "Tokugawa Yoshinao," who upheld his father Tokugawa Ieyasu's teachings, reclaimed the Owari domain, and dedicated himself to legislation, land development, water management, and industrial revitalization. In the Yoshinao Area, which unfolds in front of the main gate of Nagoya Castle, there are many long-established restaurants serving Nagoya cuisine that are very popular with tourists. Be sure to try places like "Yabaton" for miso pork cutlets, "Yamamotoya Sohonten" for miso udon, and "Nagoya Bincho" for eel rice during your first visit. Additionally, there are bars where you can pay to sample local sake from Aichi Prefecture. If you're looking to buy local specialties from Nagoya, this area has everything you need. The second area is the "Sohchun Area," which is inspired by the innovative fashion of kabuki actors and the cultural vibrancy brought by the seventh lord of the Owari domain, "Tokugawa Sohchun." This area is located near the east gate of Nagoya Castle and features many trendy restaurants and cafes that are often frequented by local residents. There are also many shops that stay open late into the evening. Among the numerous establishments, a particularly recommended local favorite is "Ankake Taro" (あんかけ太郎), known for its saucy pasta.

Highlights

Food attractions to visit before and after sightseeing in Nagoya. This area is divided into two districts, the "Yoshinobu District," representing one of the two famous lords who once governed the Owari Domain, and the "Soharu District." If you want to taste authentic Nagoya cuisine, I recommend visiting the "Yoshinobu District." The "Soharu District," which is home to many trendy restaurants, cafes, and bars, has numerous establishments that stay open into the night.
