🗺️ Kinyu Onsen (Kinyu Hot Spring)

📝 Introduction

Known as "Japan's best massage hot spring," the massage effects are outstanding.

📖 Details

Kusatsu Onsen is one of the most distinctive hot spring villages in the "Kujū Dream Onsen Village." The Kujū Dream Onsen Village consists of 12 uniquely styled hot spring areas scattered throughout the northern part of the Kujū Mountains. Many ryokans in the Kusatsu Onsen area boast of their therapeutic hot springs, primarily featuring simple sulfur and chloride springs. The name "Kusatsu" originates from the hot spring's effectiveness in treating ailments such as shoulder stiffness and other muscle pains. Kusatsu Onsen has a long history, with its origins dating back to 958 AD, and it opened to the public as a hot spring resort in 1658 during the Edo period. Although the hot spring village was destroyed by major fires twice during the Meiji and Showa eras, it has now become a resort area with over 30 ryokans. Additionally, it is a popular starting point for those heading to the Iida Plateau and a base for climbing the Kujū Mountains. Among its attractions, the "UTASE Yu Oyu" large public bath is a highlight of Kusatsu Onsen. The large bath features 18 sources of hot spring water that cascade down from a height of 3 meters. This method of using the impact of falling water to massage the body is highly effective in alleviating symptoms such as shoulder stiffness and lower back pain, contributing to the fame of Kusatsu Onsen.
