Kirishima Onsen Town is a collective term for nine hot springs located at the foot of Mount Kirishima in Kagoshima Prefecture. With a variety of mineral waters, it attracts a large number of domestic and international tourists. At the center is the Kirishima Onsen Market, a complex facility that includes a tourist information center, souvenir shops, and restaurants.
Recommended souvenirs include "Aji-maki" and "Getanha (げたんは)," traditional local snacks from southern Kyushu. There is also the popular "Kirishima Tea Can," where you can pack the local specialty "Kirishima Tea" into a tea can. Additionally, the restaurants offer gourmet dishes made with locally renowned varieties of "Kurobuta" (black pork) and "Kurogyu" (black beef).
In the plaza within the market, there is a unique "Steamed Goods Shop" featuring local hot spring specialties. Here, you can buy onsen eggs, sweet potatoes, steamed buns, and meat sausages cooked with hot spring steam, with takeout service available. Furthermore, there is a foot bath with sulfur spring water, perfect for soothing travel fatigue.
