Located in a prime spot embraced by Mount Unzen to the east and Tachibana Bay to the west, the hot spring town of "Kohama Onsen" exudes an atmosphere of days gone by. The area is dotted with 30 hot spring sources, producing a remarkable 15,000 tons of hot spring water daily. The temperature of the hot spring sources reaches up to 105°C, making it the hottest in Japan.
Since ancient times, it has been said to cure all ailments and is still regarded as one of the best hot spring resorts in Kyushu today. It is recommended to stay overnight here and enjoy the famous hot springs at hotels or ryokans.
