Kochi Prefectural No City Zoo is home to approximately 105 species and 1,400 animals, set in a lush 19.9-hectare park designed to resemble the natural habitats of various animals, which are full of vitality. The zoo is primarily divided into five zones, each featuring carefully crafted exhibits with unique characteristics.
In the "Temperate Forest" zone, you can see beavers swimming and even watch red pandas climbing the branches. It is the only place in the country that showcases three different species of manatees, whose swimming is quite soothing to observe.
The "Tropical Forest" zone is home to a group of chimpanzees, as well as white-handed gibbons demonstrating their swinging skills from a 10-meter-high tower, and colonies of flying foxes in caves.
In the "Africa/Australia Zone," there is a large exhibit that resembles a vast grassland with Sanbō Mountain in the background. From the observation deck, visitors can watch giraffes, zebras, and the well-known "non-moving bird," the whale-headed stork, along with kangaroos that hop around or peek out of their pouches, among many other popular animals.
The "Tropical Rainforest Pavilion" is also very popular, creating an environment that replicates a tropical rainforest, complete with realistic heavy rain and mist, allowing visitors to feel as if they are lost in the jungle. It showcases a variety of unique animals from Central and South America and Southeast Asia, including birds and mammals that inhabit the trees and ground, as well as reptiles and fish from the water.
Don't miss the "Children's Zoo," where you can find adorable animals like prairie dogs and penguins waiting for you!
