Sakamoto Ryoma was an active figure during the late Edo period and a key player in the Meiji Restoration, working hard to forge alliances between the Satsuma and Choshu domains and to achieve the return of political power to the emperor. He had a significant impact on the establishment of the new government in Japan. In this memorial hall, visitors can learn about Ryoma's life and the history of the late Edo period through audio and animations.
The museum displays many precious materials, including letters written by Sakamoto Ryoma, which will captivate even those who are not fans of Ryoma. The contents of his letters vary, containing serious reflections on his thoughts and policies for a new Japan, as well as humorous messages to close friends and family, showcasing his character.
Among the exhibits is a statue of Sakamoto Ryoma created by the renowned potter, the 12th generation Sakai Taikemon, along with rare items such as the same type of pistol that Ryoma possessed.
The "Ocean View GALLERY," which offers a panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean, hosts various exhibitions throughout the year. Additionally, visitors can enjoy the sea breeze and breathtaking views from the rooftop.
The Sakamoto Ryoma Memorial Hall holds four special exhibitions each year, ensuring that each visit brings new discoveries.
