🗺️ Kyoto Cultural Museum京都文化博物館

The Kyoto Museum of Culture was established in 1988 as part of the commemoration of the 1200th anniversary of the founding of Heian-kyo. After renovations in 2011, it has become a museum where all visitors can personally experience the "true Kyoto." Through a variety of exhibits and easily understandable presentations, it introduces the traditional history and culture of Kyoto, known as the ancient capital with a history of a thousand years. In the comprehensive exhibition hall, there are displayed famous items related to Kyoto, as well as precious materials from various eras and fields, allowing visitors to delve deeper into and appreciate the charm of Kyoto. On the third floor, the "Old Cinema" screens classic films collected by Kyoto Prefecture. In the "Roji Old Street," which recreates the appearance of Kyoto's machiya (townhouses) from the late Edo period, there are representative shops of Kyoto, including long-established restaurants, grocery stores, and direct sales stores of sake breweries. Here, visitors can enjoy Kyoto's cuisine and purchase authentic Kyoto souvenirs. The annex, built of red brick, was originally the former Kyoto branch of the Bank of Japan. This building was designed by prominent architects such as Kingo Tatsuno, who also designed Tokyo Station, and is now designated as an Important Cultural Property, making it a must-see architectural treasure. Additionally, there is a café that has been converted from an old vault.
