📖 Details

Arashiyama, with its picturesque scenery, has become a representative tourist attraction in Kyoto. Located along the way from the "Togetsukyo Bridge" to "Tenryuji Temple," "Kyoto Kitcho Arashiyama Main Store" is a renowned kaiseki restaurant both in Japan and overseas. Currently, the third-generation head chef is Kunio Tokuoka, the grandson of founder Teiichi Yuki. He bases his cuisine on the traditional kaiseki style, which embodies a spirit of hospitality, while incorporating modern elements to create more luxurious Japanese dining experiences. Before dining, guests can enjoy a popular "boat ride" on the Oi River in front of the restaurant. In summer, one can also see cormorants. There are six tatami rooms of various sizes. The first-floor tatami room offers a view of a garden featuring only Arashiyama, while the second floor allows dining amidst beautiful cherry blossoms or autumn leaves. Among these, the most special is the large tatami room "Taikotei," which underwent extensive renovations from 2022 to 2023. The brand-new ceiling painting and the recreated space of the traditional shoin style are major highlights.
