🗺️ Kyushu Railway Museum
🎨 Attraction Gallery
📝 Introduction
Education through entertainment. A museum that allows you to understand the history of railways.
📖 Details
The Kyushu Railway Memorial Museum is located in the nostalgic area of Mojiko and is housed in a brick building from the Meiji era, which was formerly the headquarters of the Kyushu Railway. The museum exhibits various historical vehicles that were active in Kyushu, uniforms of past staff, and railway tools, among other related items. It is not only a must-visit spot for railway enthusiasts but also a great place for families to enjoy together.
The museum is divided into four exhibition areas: the main building, the vehicle exhibition hall, the mini railway park, and the locomotive display area. The main building mainly introduces the history of railways in Kyushu. It features restored passenger cars from the Meiji era, where visitors can interact with dolls representing passengers and conductors and listen to restored dialogue sounds to experience the atmosphere of that time. One of the most attractive highlights is the highly realistic train driving simulator, which allows visitors to experience driving along the actual route departing from JR Mojiko Station, as well as simulating driving a suburban train. Particularly popular among railway fans is the "Tsubame Train Exhibition Area" within the museum.
The "Vehicle Exhibition Hall" and "Mini Railway Park" are located outdoors at the museum. The "Vehicle Exhibition Hall" displays nine vintage vehicles that once ran across various parts of Kyushu. The "Mini Railway Park" is Japan's first miniature railway facility, featuring five scaled-down versions of trains still active in JR Kyushu, such as the "Tsubame," "Umineko," and "Sonic." Visitors can experience driving these trains on a proper track equipped with signals and other facilities (up to three people can ride each train, with a fee of 300 yen per experience).
