*Due to maintenance, the service will be suspended on June 16, 2025.* Starting from the bridge pier near Toyama Castle Park, enjoy a round trip on a historical sightseeing boat along the Matsukawa River, taking about 30 minutes. Guided by captains with personal styles, you can trace the history of the Toyama Domain, a part of the Kaga Million Stone feudal domain, while enjoying the natural scenery from the river. In early April, the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, with about 460 Somei Yoshino cherry trees blooming along the riverbanks, creating a breathtaking view. It has been selected as one of the "Top 100 Cherry Blossom Spots in Japan," allowing you to glide leisurely under the cherry blossom arches from the boat. The Matsukawa River originally served as a natural outer moat protecting Toyama Castle. After being improved by the lords of the Toyama Domain under the Kaga feudal domain, it enabled the Kitamaebune ships to transport goods from the downstream Higashi-Iwase Port to the area, playing an indispensable role in the development of Toyama. During the historical river cruise, you can see many important landmarks along the way, such as the beautiful stone pillars and railings of the arched Sakura Bridge, and the boat bridge at the site of the "Echuu Jintou Ship Bridge," which spans across 64 boats covered with wooden planks. Additionally, there is a Matsukawa Teahouse where you can taste desserts and light meals like matcha buffet, amazake, and dango. Nearby, you can also visit the memorial hall of Rentaro Taki, who lived in Toyama for about two years and composed the song "Kōjō no Tsuki," which is open for free visits.
