Details
Yarabu Peninsula is located on the west side of Ishigaki Island. The northern part, called Mikazuki, is said to be a sacred place where deities descend, and has been revered by the islanders since ancient times. It is now a well-known scenic spot representing Okinawa.
The white lighthouse stands tall on the cape, perched on cliffs that are battered by turbulent waves. From the 40-meter high platform, one can take in the magnificent sea view. The rugged rock surface on the northern side is striking, showcasing a wild and untamed landscape. A small rock that perfectly stands out on the reef extending into the sea is known as "Ane no Atama Iwa," which is surrounded by many legends. The southern side of the island features open landscapes filled with a tropical atmosphere, including forests of banyan trees and natural beaches.
Around April to May, the nearby Tekkō lily blooms. The sight of endless white flowers blooming on the hills is truly spectacular. At the same time, the beautiful evening primrose also flowers, with its soft pink blooms delighting visitors. The cape on the west side of the island is also one of the top spots for sunset viewing, attracting many travelers who come to witness the stunning sight of the sun sinking below the horizon at dusk.
