Details
Located near the center of the Niigata Plain, facing the Sea of Japan, is the main peak of Mount Yahiko. At an elevation of 634 meters, it is the same height as the Tokyo Skytree.
From Yahiko Station, you can walk to the trailhead of Mount Yahiko, which takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the summit from the Omote Sando trailhead. The trail is well-maintained and easy to walk, making it suitable for beginner hikers or those with children. There is also the Yahiko Mountain Cable Car and a dedicated road called Yahiko Mountain SKYLINE, allowing for an easy ascent to the summit. It is recommended to hike up and take the cable car down on the return trip.
At the ninth station, there is the Yahiko Mountain Top Park, which features a scenic restaurant and a 100-meter-high rotating observation tower called "Zenkai Tower," offering distant views of the Echigo Plain, the Sea of Japan, and Sado Island. At night, you can enjoy the night view of the Echigo Plain, which has been selected as one of Japan's Top 100 Night Views and a Night View Heritage site.
At the summit, you will also find the Okumiya and shrine of Yahiko Shrine, where you can feel the sacred atmosphere of Mount Yahiko, which has been revered as a spiritual mountain since ancient times.

You can reach the trailhead by walking from the station, and it takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes to reach the summit, which is an easy and pleasant walk. You can also easily reach the top by choosing the car-only road or the cable car. At the summit, there is the 奥宮 (Okumiya) and the 御神廟 (Goshinbyō) of the 彌彥神社 (Miyake Shrine), where you can feel the sacred atmosphere.
