About Morioka Hachimangu
The deities related to livelihood that are worshipped here are energy spots in Morioka.
Details
Morioka Hachimangu is said to have been established in the 8th year of the Enpo era (1680) by Nambu Shigenobu, the third lord of the Mutsu Morioka domain. It is the foremost grand shrine in the prefecture, encompassing a total of 12 shrines within its grounds. The shrine enshrines various deities closely related to daily life, including those of agriculture, industry, commerce, academics, and basic needs such as food, clothing, and shelter.
The main shrine building has undergone multiple renovations after suffering from disasters such as the Great Morioka Fire in the 17th year of the Meiji era (1884) and natural calamities like snowstorms. The current main shrine was reconstructed in the 9th year of the Heisei era (1997). The vibrant vermilion lacquered main shrine, adorned with carvings of the prefectural flower, the Paulownia, symbolizes the beloved face of Morioka among the public.
In addition, the grounds include the "Yorozu Kannon Shrine," which enshrines the deity of good relationships, the "Ume no Kami," which prays for safe childbirth and many descendants, and the "Takabe Shrine," which enshrines the deity of cooking. Among the 12 shrines, the one that receives the most visitors is the "Kasamori Inari Shrine," which prays for prosperous business. Before the construction of Morioka Hachimangu, Kasamori Inari Shrine was located at the summit of Hachiman Mountain and is the oldest shrine within the area.
