Mount Moiwa, standing at 531 meters, is home to a protected primeval forest. It takes about 20 minutes to reach from downtown Sapporo by public transportation, making it a popular recreational spot for local residents due to its convenient access. From the observation deck at the summit, you can overlook the Ishikari Plain and the distant views of Ishikari Bay. Not only is the scenery captivating during the day, but the dazzling night view has also been selected as one of Japan's "New Three Great Night Views." Here, you can enjoy a 360-degree panoramic view of the nightscape without any obstructions. The twinkling city lights and decorative illuminations at dusk are considered the most spectacular sight in Sapporo. The hike to the summit takes about 1 to 2 hours one way, with five routes suitable for beginners. Along the trails, you can hear the gentle chirping of wild birds, see various species of trees and flowers, and even spot small animals like squirrels and northern foxes. In addition to hiking the trails, you can also take a cable car and then transfer to a mini cable car to reach the summit. Alternatively, you can drive there by renting a car or taking a taxi along the road.

Getting There
(1) There is a free shuttle bus from the "Cable Car Entrance" station on the Sapporo City Tram Circular Line, running every 15 minutes. On weekdays, it starts at 17:15, and on Saturdays and public holidays, the schedule is adjusted according to operating hours. (2) Take the JR Hokkaido Bus Keimei Line towards the 50 direction for about 37 minutes, and get off at the "Moerenuma Mountain Cable Car" station, which is a short walk away.
Hours / Holidays
Open year-round. However, the Sapporo Moiwa Mountain Ropeway and Mini Ropeway will be closed for maintenance from late March to late April, and will also be closed during inclement weather.
