Kobe's "Nankinmachi," along with Yokohama Chinatown and Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown, is collectively known as Japan's three major Chinatowns. It features over 100 Chinese restaurants, alongside several Japanese and Western-style eateries. There are also grocery stores and shops selling various ingredients. Visitors can enjoy the unique lively atmosphere of Chinatown while sampling authentic Chinese dishes such as pork buns, shark fin soup, pan-fried buns, and Peking duck.
Nankinmachi Plaza is located in the central area of Nankinmachi. The plaza features a 6.8-meter tall Chinese-style pavilion surrounded by 13 stone statues, as well as several traditional Chinese-style archways, including the "Changan Gate" on the east side, the "Xi'an Gate" on the west side, and the "Hairong Gate" on the south side.
Throughout the year, Nankinmachi hosts a variety of colorful events. The most notable are the large traditional Chinese festivals, including the Spring Festival in winter and the Mid-Autumn Festival in autumn. During these events, the entire area is filled with joy and vitality. Nankinmachi resembles a theme park where visitors can stroll around and experience rich exotic culture. It is conveniently located near Sannomiya Station, making it easily accessible for tourists.
