About Nara Park
A park that represents the landscapes and charm of Japan.
Details
Nara Park is a park with a long history. In addition to being adjacent to famous sites designated as World Heritage Sites, such as Kasuga-taisha, Kofuku-ji, Todai-ji, Nara National Museum, and Shosoin, it also boasts beautiful natural landscapes. Located in the center of Nara City, its convenient access to various tourist attractions is one of its charms.
Covering an area of approximately 511 hectares, Nara Park is home to the "Kasugayama Primeval Forest," designated as a national natural monument by the Japanese government (a special natural monument), as well as a population of wild deer designated as a natural monument known as "Nara deer." Among them, the adorable sika deer are particularly popular. These deer living in the park are not afraid of humans and are very approachable. Visitors can purchase "shika senbei" (deer crackers) to feed the deer. (Feeding anything other than shika senbei is prohibited!)
The park hosts various exciting and interesting events every year. Among them is the "Nara Lantern Walk Festival," during which cultural properties like Kasuga-taisha light up with colorful lanterns, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. There is also the "Wakakusa Yamayaki Festival," where visitors can witness the entire mountain engulfed in flames, painting the sky red in a spectacular scene. It is recommended to check the annual event calendar on the official website "Nara Park Guide" when planning your itinerary.
Highlights
It has beautiful nature. Because it is located in the city center, transportation is quite convenient. Many historical and cultural properties are gathered in the surrounding area. One of the park's features is the presence of a herd of deer that live within and around the area. Although the deer appear gentle, they can occasionally become aggressive, so please be cautious when getting close to them. Please be sure to follow the park's etiquette rules, such as taking your trash with you when you leave.
