About Nasu Kogen Minamioka Farm
The ice cream made from fresh milk of rare breed cows is a must-try specialty of the farm.
Details
Tochigi Prefecture boasts a rich natural environment with abundant green resources and fresh air, making it one of Japan's important dairy farming regions. Nasu Highland Minamioka Farm is a popular tourist farm in Tochigi Prefecture, open 365 days a year with free admission.
At Minamioka Farm, animals such as cows, sheep, goats, horses, donkeys, and rabbits live freely in the lush highland nature. Visitors can engage in activities like feeding and horseback riding for close encounters with the animals. Additionally, there are opportunities to try fishing for rainbow trout, challenge oneself with archery, and play disc golf among other outdoor sports.
A special recommendation is to try the farm's famous "PREMIUM Soft Serve Ice Cream." This ice cream is made from the raw milk of the rare breed of dairy cow known as "Guernsey" (ガーンジィ牛), of which there are only about 200 in Japan. It has a rich texture and strong aroma. The milk from Minamioka Farm's Guernsey cows has won the "Grand Gold Prize" at the National Raw Milk Awards in Japan and is certified as a "Nasu Brand" tourist specialty.
The farm's restaurant also offers a variety of dairy-based delicacies, including hamburgers made from their own fresh beef and Genghis Khan dishes made with low-fat lamb.
Moreover, visitors can purchase various dairy products made from the prized Guernsey raw milk at the farm shop, including ice cream, yogurt, and jam.
