📝 Introduction
A museum that houses the world's largest annual hourglass, the "Sand Calendar."
📖 Details
The Jinma Sand Museum is a sand-themed museum that houses the world's largest hourglass. The museum showcases artworks created around the themes of "sand," "time," and "environment," as well as various types of sand from Japan and around the world.
The Jinma Sand Museum was built to promote regional tourism and preserve the "singing sand" beach. It consists of six pyramid-shaped glass exhibition halls. The main attraction of the museum is the world's largest annual hourglass, known as the "sand clock," which is located in the central atrium, 8 meters above the ground. The timer, referred to as the "sand clock," is a glass container measuring 5.2 meters in height and 1 meter in diameter, filled with 1 ton of sand that takes one year to completely flow through. Every New Year's Eve, an event is held to flip the sand clock, called the "Festival of Time."
The Jinma Sand Museum also serves as the setting for the story of the television drama and movie "砂時計" (Sand Clock), which is based on the manga by Aihara Hinako. In the special exhibition area, visitors can see messages, signatures, and scripts from the cast.
In the nearby "Experience Interactive Exchange Hall," visitors can participate in DIY activities such as sandblasting, melting glass with burners, and making transparent candles, which are quite popular. Additionally, merchandise such as hourglasses and keychains featured in the drama can be purchased.
